Motivational Interviewing

A programme for working with ambivalence and change readiness. Scaling exercises, values exploration, and change talk prompts.

What's inside

This collection is designed for clients who know they want to change but aren't doing it — or who are genuinely torn between staying the same and moving forward. It works with ambivalence rather than against it. The programme includes micro lessons on MI principles, ambivalence exploration prompts, values and discrepancy exercises, and change readiness tools.

The programme moves through six sections:

Introduction establishes a baseline change readiness assessment. Exploring Ambivalence gives genuine space to both sides — what's good about staying the same and what would be different if things changed. Values and Discrepancy connects current behaviour to stated values, finding the gap that creates genuine motivation. Building Confidence draws on past successes and strengths to make existing capability visible. Commitment articulates the client's own reasons for change and their own goals. Sustaining Change normalises setbacks and builds lasting habits.

How to use this collection

For clients stuck in ambivalence — the primary use case. When a client keeps talking about change but not acting, this programme gives space for the ambivalence rather than fighting it.

For behaviour change coaching — whether it's leadership habits, work-life balance, communication style, or career decisions — any coaching where behaviour change is the goal.

As a programme opener, use the Exploring Ambivalence and Values sections at the start of any engagement where the client hasn't fully committed, then transition to GROW or OSKAR once genuine commitment emerges.
