This collection provides the full structure for a mentoring relationship between an experienced coach and a developing one — from initial contracting through observation, feedback, and the progressive handover of autonomy that marks effective mentoring.
The programme covers six sections:
Establishing the Mentoring Relationship — Contracting, clarifying expectations, defining the scope, and building the trust that makes honest feedback possible.
Observation & Feedback — Structured observation frameworks, giving developmental feedback that builds rather than diminishes confidence, and the specific skills of observing coaching without interfering.
Guided Practice — Supporting the mentee through increasingly complex coaching situations, debriefing sessions together, and sharing your own reasoning transparently.
Progressive Autonomy — Gradually stepping back as competence grows, managing the anxiety of letting go, and knowing when the mentee is ready for more independence.
Review & Development Planning — Periodic reviews of progress, honest assessment of readiness, and collaborative planning for the mentee's continued development.
Closing the Relationship — Ending well: celebrating growth, acknowledging what remains, and transitioning from mentoring to collegial relationship.
