Promotion Readiness

Navigating the identity shift, reading the new landscape, building leadership presence, and sustaining the step up for clients preparing for or adjusting to a promotion.

What's inside

This collection addresses the transition most organisations underestimate — the gap between earning a promotion and growing into it. Each topic includes a micro lesson, blind spots, journal prompts, a five-day habit builder, and post-practice reflections.

The programme moves through four stages:

The Identity Shift — From peer to leader, letting go of the expertise and habits that earned the promotion but won't sustain it, and managing the imposter syndrome that almost every newly promoted leader experiences.

Reading the Landscape — Understanding the new context from a higher vantage point, mapping stakeholders deliberately, and closing the expectations gap through explicit conversations.

Building Your Leadership Presence — Making strong first impressions and securing early wins, communicating differently for each audience, and learning to delegate and decide rather than do.

Sustaining the Step Up — Building the support system that prevents isolation, managing energy and boundaries to avoid burnout, and playing the long game beyond the initial adjustment.

How to use this collection

As a structured programme, deliver sequentially over eight to ten weeks. The natural arc moves clients from the identity shift through to sustainable leadership habits.

For targeted coaching, each section works independently. Pull just the Identity Shift for a client struggling with the peer-to-leader transition, or Reading the Landscape for someone stepping on political landmines.

As session preparation, assign journal prompts before each session. The pre-meeting preparation tool is particularly useful before high-stakes interactions.

Available to registered Coaching Workspace members. You'll be asked to sign in if you're not already.
